About Us
The Surgi-Med Clinic is a full service, private hospital in San Fernando, Trinidad. Our highly trained, qualified and experienced staff, paired with some of the best and most innovative medical technology available today, help us ensure that all patients receive the best care possible. We currently have a 36 bed capacity consisting of single, and double bed private rooms and a 6 bed ICU/CCU.
Situated on the Corner of Chacon and Penitence Streets, we are conveniently located in close proximity to the main transportation hubs in San Fernando via the PTSC Bus Terminal, Water Taxi Terminal, and Maxi/Taxi service routes.
Differently-abled patients have wheel-chair access via our elevator and ramps both at the rooftop park and throughout the lower floors. Our two car parks located on Chacon, and St. Vincent Streets, provide convenient and secure parking for our patients and visitors.
A Brief History
“The Surgi-Med Clinic Co. Ltd.,” previously known as “San Fernando Medical Centre,” was established in May 1997 after changing ownership and management.
In September 1997, Surgi-Med was opened to the public after extensive renovations to update the building were completed. This included the installation of a new Reception Area, an additional Operating Theatre, three (3) Private Rooms with eight (8) beds, an X-ray department, and a Medical Laboratory.
Surgi-Med kept expanding with the addition of a Laminar Flow Operating Theatre, more Private Rooms, Delivery and Nursery Rooms, a Minor Theatre, an Intensive Care Unit, more doctors' offices, another Reception Area, a Physiotherapy Department, and facilities for Ultrasounds, CT scanning, Stress Testing, and Echo Testing.
In 2007, Surgi-Med celebrated its ten year anniversary by acknowledging and awarding the dedication of staff and officially launching the 64 Slice CT Scan Machine, now a part of our Radiology department. The Surgi-Med Clinic was also honoured with an award from the South Chamber of Commerce for Entrepreneurship.
In 2010, Surgi-Med Clinic continued expanding as it opened its new Cardiac Theatre, Advanced Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.), even more Private Rooms, another reception area to accommodate more doctor’s offices, and additional car parks for customers.
